Yalla Project Wins the PNT Heritage Award 2026

Our Nablus Old Town Regeneration project received the award for Conservation and Adaptive Reuse at a ceremony in Amman.

We are proud to share that the Nablus Old Town Regeneration project, carried out through the Yalla Project, has won the PNT Heritage Award 2026 in the category of Conservation and Adaptive Reuse.

The award was presented on 4 June 2026 at the Odeon Theatre in Downtown Amman, where Yalla fellow Razan Khalaf received it on behalf of the project. The award is organised by the Petra National Trust in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Jordan, under the patronage of HRH Princess Dana Firas, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage.

Now in its third year, the award opened for the first time to projects from Palestine and Syria as well as Jordan. Out of 293 submissions, ten projects reached the final stage, and winners were announced in three categories. Each received a cash prize, a certificate and a trophy designed by artist Katia Al Tal.

On 26 June, EU Representative Alexandre Stutzmann visited Nablus and met with Yalla co-founder Basel Kittaneh to congratulate the team. He described the project as an example of how heritage preservation can go hand in hand with supporting local communities, revitalising historic urban spaces and creating sustainable economic opportunities, and as a contribution to the resilience of the Old City.

Since 2019, Yalla has worked to bring life back to the Old City of Nablus by restoring historic buildings and giving them new uses: a guesthouse, a café, a community kitchen, a library, a rooftop farm and a research centre. Our approach is that regeneration lasts when it is rooted in the local community and its economy, not in outside funding alone. This recognition belongs to everyone who has built, cooked, hosted, studied and worked with us in the Old City.

We extend our thanks to the Petra National Trust, the EU Delegation to Jordan, the jury, and the award’s supporters, Jordan Kuwait Bank, Quds Bank and H.E. Mr. Said Samih Darwazeh. We also congratulate our fellow Palestinian winners, The Heritage Guardians Project, who received the award for Community Engagement and Social Inclusion.
